What is individual health insurance?
Individual health insurance is coverage that you purchase on your own, on an individual or family basis, as opposed to obtaining through an employer or from a government-run program like Medicare, Medicaid, or CHIP.
Who needs individual health insurance?
Individual health insurance is for anyone who doesn’t have access to employer-sponsored or government-run health coverage. This includes people who are employed by a small business that doesn’t provide health benefits, people who are self-employed, and people who retire before they’re eligible for Medicare and have to get their own personal health coverage until they reach age 65.
Individual Health Insurance
Individuals can always sign up for health insurance during open enrollment periods, which typically happens towards the end of the year. Of course, if open enrollment is over, we can always help you with supplemental health insurance, such as short term, dental supplements, and vision insurance. If you need full coverage, but open enrollment is over, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) which allows individuals to get health insurance provided they have a qualifying life event, such as loss of health coverage, marriage, birth of a child, or moving. If you have questions, talk to our experts. We aim to make sure you get the best insurance plan for your needs and budget.
